Following an early career in sculpture and painting, Clifford Ross began his photographic work in 1995. Realizing the limitations of existing film and digital cameras, he invented the R1 high resolution camera system. The Mountain series are among the highest resolution single shot landscapes in the world. The black and white images in the Hurricane series (begun in 1998) depict large-scale ocean waves stopped cold, spray and spume arrested in mid-flight. Nature's power and sublime beauty.
